Semi-LWR magnetic card encoder
Magnetic card encoding for OEM integration
The Semi-LWR module is a powerful magnetic card encoding system for integration into OEM and special-purpose machines.
It encodes standard ID-1 cards made of plastic or paper as well as special sizes with maximum precision.
Thanks to its open architecture, the Semi-LWR can be seamlessly integrated into existing production lines and achieves speeds of up to 5,000 cards per hour.
The mechanical card guide is provided by the machine manufacturer. Rinas supplies the precise encoding module, including electronics and magnetic head control.
Structure and Functionality of the Semi-LWR Encoding Module
The Semi-LWR was developed specifically for machine builders and system integrators who want to integrate a reliable magnetic stripe encoder into their own systems.
While card transport is controlled entirely by the host system, the semi-LWR handles the precise movement of the magnetic head, the encoding of the tracks, and the electronic control.
The module detects when a card is in the encoding position via defined I/O interfaces.
If the data record is available via the serial RS232 connection, the card is automatically encoded and then read.
The status of the encoding is reported back to the machine control and the host system.
This structured communication ensures secure and reproducible coding, even with large quantities.
A special feature is the parking position of the unused magnetic head when personalizing RFID or chip cards.
This prevents unnecessary wear and tear, protects the card, and preserves the surface quality in the long term.
Technical advantages of the Semi-LWR coding module
- Magnetic stripe encoding with up to 5,000 cards per hour

Sustainable coding with the Think Green concept
Like all Rinas systems, the Semi-LWR module also follows the Think Green principle:
Only wear parts will be replaced.
The magnetic head or rubber rollers can be replaced in just a few minutes – easily, safely, and in a resource-efficient manner.
This extends the service life of the system and minimizes downtime.
Technical advantages of the Semi-LWR coding module
- Magnetic card personalization in OEM systems
- Access and ID card systems
- Ticket and payment systems
- System integration in special-purpose machines

Frequently asked questions about Semi-LWR coding modules
The Semi-LWR is a compact magnetic card encoding module for OEM integration.
It encodes HICO and LOCO magnetic strips in accordance with ISO 7811 and can be integrated into machine control systems via standardized interfaces.
It encodes ID-1 cards (85.7 × 54 mm) made of plastic or paper, and special formats are also possible.
Embossed, transparent, or colored cards are supported.
The module reads and writes all three tracks simultaneously.
Control is via I/O signals, while data is transmitted via RS232.
After encoding, the card status is reported back to the machine control system.
The semi-LWR requires little maintenance.
Magnetic heads or rubber rollers can be replaced in just a few minutes.
Regular cleaning extends the service life and ensures consistent coding quality.
